Vastu Shastra is an extensive ancient science of living. Originally, God Brahma explained it to Garga, who then shared it with Parashara. Parashara passed the knowledge to Bruhadradha, and finally, Viswakarma learned from Bruhadradha and spread Vastu knowledge to the world. We have acquired the knowledge of Vastu Shastra from the Vedas, Puranas, and many ancient texts reported by various sages. Vastu principles were first found in the Rigveda and are elaborated in the Stapatya Veda, which is part of the Atharva Veda. Additionally, Vastu concepts appear in the Matsya Purana (detailing rock carving), Skanda Purana (principles of town planning), Agni Purana (residential Vastu), and other texts such as Vayu, Garuda, Bhavishya, and Narada Puranas (Vastu for temples). Beyond these, many granthas like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Chanakya's Arthashastra, Brihat Samhita, Samarangana Sutradhar, Vishwakarma Prakashika, and Mayamat cover Vastu Shastra. In the eleventh century, King Bhoja Raja wrote the Samarangana Sutradhar, a compilation of Vastu principles from various granthas. This text provides simple remedial measures for correcting Vastu faults without causing damage to the constructed house.
